I recently got back to Nuevo Chimbote with my host family from being in Cuzco (where Machu Picchu is) It was a fun trip although it was very short :( That city was so beautiful. You can really tell that the people that live there are proud to be where they are and they have a reason to ; Its so beautiful, almost unreal. Read more.

Even though the time left is so little, I think that I still haven't completely realized that I'm going home. The time passed quickly, but I have formed a second life for myself here. Saying goodbye to my friends and host family will be one of the hardest things that I've ever done in my life. I have walked these streets so many times and the last time I drive out of this city will be heartbreaking. This new life that I've accustomed too and grown to love, this new culture... it's hard to accept that I am leaving forever.
Unfortunately, even though I know that I will return one day to visit, it will only be a visit, and it will never be the same again. At least I am left with the memories and the knowledge that I took advantage and loved it while I was here. Read more.

28 days and it's a wrap. A wrap on my AFS Year in Paraguay, but that doesn't mean that the adventure ends here. The adventure continues and will continue throughout my life. You can say that it was just a year abroad, but this year has given me a lifetime of memories. Read more.

What's a Kimono? Well, looking at the Kanji, 着物, the first character (ki) means to wear and the second (mono) means thing. So, to put it simply, it's just something to wear!
Although everyone in Japan wore Kimonos in the past. I only see a few people walking around in them here. Kimonos are very expensive. Then there is the Yukata, which is like a Kimono but with less layers of cloth and less expensive ;) and both are only worn for special occasions. Fortunately, I got to try on a kimono at an AFS tea ceremony. Unfortunately, my camera died once the ceremony started.

Hi everybody! Sorry that you haven't heard from me in a while. I'm living in a very small village that doesn't have any internet so this is probably only the second time that I've been on a computer since i got here. i only have 12 minutes left on the clock, so I have to talk fast. I'm living in a village called Akim Asantemang in the eastern region and I'm teaching in a village called Moffram. Everybody here is extremely nice and I'm enjoying myself very much. Read more.

It was so exciting when we started to descend at the Denpasar airport. Bali from the air looked like a jungly green paradise. We got off the plane on one of those step ladder kind of things and immediately the stifling heat hit. It was so much hotter than Jakarta. I hadn't imagined such a thing to be possible but there you have it.
The other AFS kids got there I think that morning so they all met us at the airport. It was so great to see everyone again! This is the first time we've been together since the orientation way back forever ago in august. The AFS leaders led us back to our bus and we set off, talking and singing the World Cup South Africa theme version of wavin flag. that was like the song of the day haha. It was great to catch up with everyone and hear about their lives so far. Read more.

Saturday afternoon Rebecca and I set out at a leisurely pace to do something a little bit out of the ordinary, to take the train to Tarsus. The train trip is a little under and hour and at about $2 you really can't find a better way to travel. Tarsus is the birthplace of St. Paul and is a very historical city though a lot of that has been destroyed in the past couple thousand years since St. Paul was there. We didn't have any idea where we were going but we had some idea of what we wanted to see and figured we would play the rest by year. We ended up stumbling across this ancient Roman road that I had read about in my guidebook. Read more.
